Trying to import CSV file from web but cant get it right.

    Hi guys!

The site hockey-reference.com provides a 'Export' function which gives the user a csv with all the data of that season.
Im trying to import it into Excel automaticly by using the data from text function but it isnt working.

Link : http://www.hockey-reference.com/team...016_games.html, press schedule & results, there is a Export button which provides a link to a downloadable CSV file. Thats the one im trying to import.

Sorry if this isnt posted in the correct forum.

    1. Open the file in excel (you need to choose ‘All File” in the open dialogue box).
    2. Select column A
    3. Go to the Data tab and select text to columns under data tools then select delimited and hit next. Then select comma as the delimiter and hit finish

The thing is the csv file updates frequently and i want to import the most recent version every day. So i thought using a link would be nice. I'm not downloading it every day for every team. I just want it to do that for me using the link which i cant seem to get right.

Seeing that you are using import from text, you will get a dialogue that starts off with Step 1 of 3. Choose DELIMITED and click NEXT.
    Step 2
Select COMMMA, de-select TAB, click NEXT.
    Step 3
Click on the DATE column in the small window and select DATE and select YMD from the choices. Click FINISH.

Select where you want the data
Click Properties and choose the options that you want and click OK.

This won't automatically download the file for you but it will import the file into Excel in a formatted fashion.
