    Win-Loss Records

Hi, this is a bit of a two-parter:

I am compiling some sports statistics and would like to know (A) how do I insert win-loss records (e.g., 43-29-2) and not have them come up as dates? The only way I have been able to solve this is to either change the "number" column from general or date to text or to put an apostrophe before the win-loss record, either one of which results in an error message you have to hit "ignore error" to get rid of, but which reappears each time you use your filters to sort the data and then have to go hit ignore for thousands of rows each time. I have other things to do.

And (B) is there any way when sorting the data that I'd be able to generate a new win-loss record based on the data I'm sorting. For example, let's say I want to look at only teams whose win percentage is above .500, then, after filtering that data, the new win-loss record will appear. Does Excel have those capabilities? And if not, what does? Can someone point me in the right direction on this one? Ty.

    Re: Win-Loss Records

I don't get a date when I enter the number you suggested, but I see what you mean if I enter a lower number.

So, stick with the TEXT and turn off the Error Check:

Turn error checking rules on or off:
    - Click the File tab, click Options, and then click the Formulas category.
    - Under Excel checking rules, select or clear the check boxes of any of the following rules:
    - Cells containing formulas that result in an error The formula does not use the expected syntax, arguments, or data types.

With regard to the second question, it is complicated by your storing the results in one column. Why not use three?

I hope this helps, please let me know!

    Regards,

    David
