pivot tables vs. power pivot for large data set

Hello. I have data with 80,000 rows. In the past, I've found that manipulating this data (even a simple copy/paste values down a column) freezes everything up. That being said, would it be better to use the data in powerpivot and create any modifications in the manage data area? Thanks.

A Pivot Table is to summarize your data in various ways. It will not help you manipulate the data source for the Pivot Table.

If you are trying to make modifications to the actual source data for the Pivot Table, the pivot table will not make the changes. Make the changes in the actual data.

Slowness of calculations may be due to the computer not being up to the task, poorly written formulae, poor organization of the data to be calculated or any combination of the aforementioned.

Provide a sample of the data and maybe something will stand out.
Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Hi Doverman. It was more of a conceptual question. Doesn't powerpivot allow you to add calculated columns and calculated fields which is sort of like data source manipulation.

    Thanks.

You can add calculated fields to regular pivot tables. You don' need PowerPivot to do that. This does not change your source data. It just changes the presentation of the data that you have.

Powerpivot is an add-in for Excel. An explanation of Powerpivot is here https://support.office.com/en-us/art...7-40896795d045
