Locking Specific Cells?

Is there a way to lock specific cells from being changed?

Example: if I put a formula into a cell, I don't want random people accidentally tabbing over and ruining the formula. But I still want them to be able to input the data that the formula uses.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the forum

You can protect individual cells from the casual user.

1. Select all cells you dont want protected, right-click on them, select Format/Protect/unckeck Locked
OR
if it would be quicker, select ALL cells, and then do that
then select those cells you want protected and repeat with Lock
2. right -click the sheet tab name, click Protect sheet, and select which options you want (probably just the 1st 2?)

If you make a mistake, you can always go back, unprotect the sheet and fix what you want. Keep in mind that this is NOT a very secure method, users that know what they are doing can get around this easily. There is an option to use a password, but lets see if this will get you going?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Re: Locking Specific Cells?

When I unlock the cells and protect the sheet, the locked formula cells do not update to reflect the calculations.

Edit: Scratch that. I must have accidentally hit Manual Calculate.

Edit2: Thank you so much. This worked. It was so simple.
