    Protected sheet in public file

Hello, hope anyone can help me.

I'm having trouble with a file that's on a public folder, the file is password protected, and then some of the sheets are password protected as well.

Problem is, when I try to unlock a protected page, I type the correct password and it pops the message that the password is incorrect.

Any ideas on why this happens and/or how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

This usually happens because the password is incorrect. Are you using a different password to unprotect the sheet that you used to open the file?

The password that you use to open the file is not necessarily the same password that protects individual sheets, unless the owner made it that way. That is unlikely, because then there would be no point in protecting the sheets--anybody who could open the file could also unprotect the sheets.

This is really a question for the person who owns the file.

Re: Protected sheet in public file

    Hi

Right, I forgot to specify that I own the file, I setup the passwords, have them written down in paper as they were inputed when I created the file, and they're not the same as the workbook's password.

Example: workbook password is April2016, then a bunch of sheets (about 10 or so) are protected each with a unique password. Let's say a sheet has as password TM16, so when prompted I type TM16 and it displays the error message.

So I'm going mad about it...at first I thought it was because another user accessed the file through the public drive, but I'm not quite sure that is the reason, becasue sometimes I'm aware that other people use the file while I can work with it without issues.

OK. I'll have to step aside here because I have never heard of a case of using the correct password to unprotect a sheet and have Excel complain that it's the wrong password. You seem to have ruled out user error.
