Define what you mean by "work in connections with external data", just so we are all on the same page?

Hi,
The newer Excel tool called Power Query or Get & Transform Data might be the topic you need to study. Excel deals with lots of external types of data using this newer tool. Power Query is an Add In in 2010 and 2013 and built into 2016. Search on Power Query.
