Values are sapphire, ruby, emerald or diamond.
If a2 & b2 match show same value in cell c2. If true d2 is conditionally formatted dependent on the value, if not true c2 is blank and no color fill in d2
if sapphire & sapphire d2 is blue, if ruby & ruby red, if emerald & emerald green, if diamond & diamond gray.
C2=if(A2=B2,A2,"")
Not sure why you want to CF a blank cell, why not CF C2? Either way, you will need a rule for each color/match...
1. highlight the range you want to apply the conditional formatting to
2. on the home tab, styles, select CF
3. select new rule, select use formula
4. enter =C2="saphire" format fill BLUE
Repeat 3 and 4 for each color that you have
