If I do an advanced filter with "big bed" as one of the filters in a list, it seems to also be keeping "big bed for me" in the table. Shouldn't it filter this out since it is not exactly "big bed"?

Yes I agree it's not very clear and certainly not immediately obvious. When you use text in a criteria it will find all items that begins with that text.
To filter the text only then the criteria needs to be
="=big bed"

I have use formula with search "big bed"
In a list contain "big bed" pull data with formula.
