Adding up cells based on a conditional factor.

This is a little more involved than my last question. I would attach a picture to help with my question, but I am not sure how to do that on this forum. If anyone can walk me through how to attach the pic that would be awesome!

I am also not certain that this can be done within a cell, but here it goes.

I am working within cell J17.

I need a formula that looks to cell G17 to see if it reads "Total Line". If it does, I need it to then look for the value of cell "H17". Once it finds the value of "H17" I need it to look for the same value in column "B" and report the row.

So lets say "G17" does equal "Total Line". It then looks for "H17" to find it's value. That value equals "10". It then looks for that value in column "B" and finds it in row "12". So I then want my cell J17 to report the sum of cells I12 through I17.

I might have messed up these cell numbers and/or column numbers. I can send a pic if needed.

I don't see any picture, could it be because I am using a Mac? If you click on "Go Advanced" to the bottom right of the text box, and then go to the "Additional Options" section, then click on "Manage Attachments" you should be able to pick a file you want to upload.

Try pasting the following formula into J17:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

That works well, other than when I copy that formula to other cells the ":I17" does not automatically change. Everything else does. You might have a resolve for this, but I'm going to take a minute to look into your furmula to see how it works.

That's the method I used, but it won't pop up. I could be that the pic file is too large. I wen't to "go advanced" then clicked on "insert image". It will not let me click on "insert image" there so I clicked on "basic uploader" and then selected the file. Once it uploads it does not give me any other options and the file doesn't appear in the message.

It would help if you attached a sample Excel workbook, rather than a picture of one.

To do this, click on Go Advanced (below the Edit Window) while you are composing a reply, then scroll down to and click on Manage Attachments and the Upload window will open. Click on Browse and navigate to (and double-click) the file icon that you want to attach, then click on Upload and then on Close this Window to return to the Edit window. When you have finished composing your post, click on Submit Post.

Please note that the Paperclip icon does not work.

    Hope this helps.

Assuming that you want to drag the formula down column J and have it change from I17 to I18 etc. Try pasting the following in J17 and copy down:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

I am not sure why this is not uploading. I have walked through that process with the pic attachement and the excel file and it looks like neither are attaching. I'm not a total newb for crying out loud, I built two gaming systems for my son and his girlfriend for christmas. I have another laptop that I can move this file to and then try it again.
