Sort Grouped Rows &/or Columns

Hi,

I have a log template that I created & using to track business travel mileage

As you will see through the template, I'm trying to sort through:

Column(s):

D - Dates
E - "A,B,C,D" - Original attempt to keep same order throughout template

These are 2 columns only needed to sort.

Issues I'm having is if my entries has the same date & then wen I sort, the "A,B,C,D" gets re-ordered instead of staying as is or will sort alphabetically.

How can I avoid this or sort groups of rows?

I dont understand what the problem is?
If you sort, 1st on column D (Dates), then on column E (Letters), then the letters will of course sort A-Z (or Z-A if you select that)

If you only sorted on E, then excel tries to "help" by sorting based on the next column. Col E looks to be in A-Z sequence anyway?

If only "D" & "E" column sort, then after column "F" data stand still and data mismatch with original date.
Why not select complete table and sort with date.
Refer attach file sort as per above condition.

I think I just resolved my own issue with your feedback. I thought I originally needed 2 columns (D & E) to sort & keep the "A,B,C,D" order in column E & when I had 2 of the same dates, that would re-order alphabetically, putting "A,A' for example.

Now, it appears that only need column D or the dates to order instead of using column E & still keeps the, "A,B,C,D" order.

I'll check back if I still have issues with my master file.
