need formula for attendance using drop down list and today()

    Hello,
I am making a attendance spreadsheet. my current formula is =IF(DATE=TODAY(),STATUS,"")
DATE is a column with sequential dates by 5 day increments.
TODAY() is the the current date for today.
STATUS is what attendance condition they are in, here, day off, annual, sick, late.

The formula works for one day, the day that matches today's date. The problem I cant figure out is how to change the formula to keep the data from previous days from going blank once the date cell doesn't match the date of today.

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

How do you save a portion of the spreadsheet to forum as a spreadsheet
Manage Attachments has no instructions I don't think it is working either.

Nope. Wrong starting point. Take a look at sheet 4. I'm making a few guesses about what you really want, but this might give you a few ideas...

Thank you Glenn it will work perfectly, I had my mind set on the way I was doing it that I didn't think of doing it any other way.
