Conditional Lookup To Highlight Cell Based On Another In A Table

Hi Experts
I have an excel file with a table, I need to highlight cell if another cell in that row has the letter L or C
I have used =$M$9:$M$37 = "L" but it just highlights all the rows even if another letter is in the cell

Is it possible to use the table somehow as the number of rows could go up or down if I have a range of cells and the data goes over that range it wont highlight it
