Sum cells that carry a formula

    Hi !

How do you sum cells that have a formula ? Each time I try I get a count not a sum

    Thanks!

What have you been trying? ISFORMULA isn't available in 2013, I think...

Re: Sum cells that carry a formula

It seems like there must be more to this question than is given in the OP.

In my cases, I simply use either the SUM() function or the + operator: =SUM(list of cells that contain formulas or values) or =cell1+cell2+cell3+...

If you are getting a count rather than a sum, that suggests that whatever formula is in those cells is evaluating to something that Excel is interpreting as 1.

I don't know that there is much hope of a good answer here without knowing something about the sequence of calculations being performed.

Thanks Tim. Now on 2013 PC. Use this array formula:

    =SUM(IF(ISFORMULA(A1:A12),A1:A12))

Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...
