    compressing pictures

    Background:

I use an Excel 2016 spreadsheet as my issue list for installation projects.
I have it saved on the Microsoft OneDrive cloud so that I can access it from my iPad while I'm away from my laptop, running around the construction site.
I originally tried saving pictures of issues/solutions in a folder on the cloud, then making links to them in the spreadsheet.
Unfortunately, because it is all saved on my personal cloud account, nobody but me can open the links when I share the spreadsheet.
Currently, I am inserting the pictures into the spreadsheet as objects (kind of like attachments in an email, apparently), but the spreadsheet is becoming too large for the iPad to open and handle it.
I tried compressing the pictures via the object formatting menu, but that has not affected the images at all; they will not compress that way for some reason.

    Questions:

What is the best way to 'attach' pictures into spreadsheets? Am I on the right track?
How do I go about compressing the pictures to reduce the data size of the spreadsheet?

    Re: compressing pictures

Personally, I'd avoid using images in my workbooks (except for few logos etc).

I'd just upload images to One Drive and make it public/shared. And add hyperlink to the image in Excel.

    Re: compressing pictures

I agree with CK76, avoid images and embedded files within Excel as much as possible. Excel isnt a database, its for analyzing tabular data. Despite being able to insert images and objects/files, you are seeing it quickly gets unruly.

As mentioned, you can share images stored in Onedrive. Set them to be shared how you want then link to them in Excel if you really need to do this all in Excel.

However something like Access would more than likely be able to handle the data you have in Excel and store the images attached to each record as well.

As for compression, the images may already be optimally compressed given their attributes and file type. Compression is a function of how the compression algorithm can save space given that specific files makeup. For some files much of the content can be compressed but in other files there isnt much wiggle room.
Ways to get help: Post clear questions, explain your overall goal, supply as much background as possible, respond to questions asked of you by those trying to help and post sample(s) files.
