    Formatting latitude and longitude numbers

    Hi all,

I am having difficulty finding the difference in kilometers between 2 sets of lat/long. The problem seems to be with the way the numbers are formatted. Excel indicates a formatting issue but the custom format is not working for all cells. The custom format I would like to use is: ##.######## (2 numbers [DECIMAL] 8 decimal spaces).

I have a formula in cell F but because the numbers aren't formatting correctly, the formula is not working for all cells. How can I have excel follow this format for all cells and make the formula work?

Please let me know if anything is unclear. Thank you for your assistance!!

All works for me, just edit and enter without any + at the beginning of the formula

Hi Sandy666, many thanks for your reply. However, the moment I click Enable Editing on your file the numbers revert to an incorrect format and the formula does not work.

Does the problem lie in my excel settings? If so, would you know how to change number settings in Excel so this problem does not reoccur in the future?

Re: Formatting latitude and longitude numbers

This is your file. I just edited/entered again only.
I changed format for lat/lon/c-lon/c-lat to text - and it works so I don't understand why it doesn't work for you

maybe try with brand new workbook. Copy values from old, paste to new as values and try again

btw. you should show correct results for your example.

    check this (should be un-ticked)

Re: Formatting latitude and longitude numbers

Hi Sandy666, once again, the numbers reverted when I clicked Enable Editing; copying and pasting to a new workbook did not work. Also, everything looked normal with the Lotus compatibility settings on advanced settings...

It seems the problem is on my end...somewhere...

Heel erg bedankt for your help!

Ah! That last text file worked fine for me, by the way. At least I can use that data for the shortterm until I figure out how to get Excel to work with me xD

Re: Formatting latitude and longitude numbers

All works ok to me until I see #VALUE! But I did't see that so everything is ok except results because I don't know the result numbers are correct.

    anyway
