    "UPGRADE/TRANSFER" v. 2000 FILES INTO v. 2016 FILES

I use v. 2016 in which about 1/2 of my files are "new" files, i.e. ID = icon is white document with a small dark green square with a white "X" inside it.
Also, I use v. 2000 which about 1/2 of these "old" files , i.e. ID = icon is white document with a a small white square with a dark greem "X" inside it.
Q: there any way I can "upgrade, migrate, transer" the "old" files into "new" v. 2016 files???? so they all look and act like "new" files ??

...Do you mean, saving an XLS spreadsheet as an XLSX spreadsheet? Like with the "Save As" command, but only changing the filetype, not the file name.

I think the answer is YES - I don't know diff between XLS AND XLXS - but simply want to SAVE or SAVE AS each v. 2000 file (which has a "Compatability Mode" at the
top, and keeping the exact same name...... into a v. 2016 file (which does NOT have a "Compatability Mode" at the top). Attached screens show the difference in the icons for each verrsion
and a v. 2000 file with "Compatibility Mode" at the top

Yeah, just launch SAVE AS from the File ribbon tab; then when you see that dialogue box launch, there is the typical Windows Explorer file manager, and then there are:

File Name: (the file name typed in)
Save As Type: (this is a dropdown)

I'm expecting your existing files will have "Excel 97-2003 Workbook"; you want to change it to "Excel Workbook." That will save it as an XLSX file.
(read about XLS vs XLSX here).
