Exclamation Issues with Excel 2016 - linked workbooks, save as box locking.

    Hi All,

    I need some help.

I currently have Excel 2010 on my pc at work, but i am soon to be switched over to windows 10 and excel 2016.

    This is going to cause 2 issues for me, they are;

    1. In 2010, if you copy data from one workbook, you can still freely double click in to cells and delete rows and columns from other open workbooks. In 2016 it doesn't allow you to do this and acts as if the 2 workbooks are linked (are as one), so once you delete rows or columns, or click in to a cell, it un-copies the data you had copied in the first workbook.

    2. The save as window in 2010 allows you to freely click and filter your workbooks whilst the save as window is open, 2016 the save as window locks all activity to that window.

    please save me!

To provide help we need to know what you want to achieve NOT how something used to work

    - what are you doing in file1
    - what do you want to happen to file 2
    - what should not happen both files

May be helpful if you attach simple workbooks to illustrate. Makes it easier if you show before and after positions in both files (use different sheets).

    To attach a sample workbook.
Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need.
Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet
Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.
    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
Click *Add Reputation to thank those who helped you. Ask if anything is not clear

    Hi Kev,

    Thanks for replying.

I have managed to figure out a work around for number 1 in my list, but still struggle with number 2.

This isn't something i can show you as all you're doing is saving a worksheet.

When on excel 2016, if you 'save as' a workbook the save as window locks activity to that window, i need to be able to copy data from a seperate workbook and paste it in to the other workbooks save as window.

Re: Issues with Excel 2016 - linked workbooks, save as box locking.

the option you are describing under 2 got not much to do with the save as window itself but by the way Excel opens new workbooks. Excel normally opens workbooks in the same instance.

The save as windows will Always freeze all workbooks that are in the same Excel instance. Only if you have multiple instances of Excel running than workbooks in other instances can be manipulated.
I think you need to change settings on the level of the windowsregistry to force excel to Always open workbooks in a new instance
