Need to see who is in a read only file

I have a spreadsheet that is shared between 5 people. When someone opens the file that is already in use it gives you a pop up that says file is locked for editing by .... Which is great except for the fact that it only recognizes one person. So no matter who has the file open it will always say that same person. How do I get the file to recognize individual users in 2017 excel?

I don't think that it is possible.

There is a way to remove users that have a shared workbook open, so in that instance, you would be able to see who has it open from the list of users available to remove, but on a workbook that is not shared, I think you are out of luck.

Hopefully somebody can prove me wrong.

Thanks, but I want everyone to have access I just wanted to know who was in the spreadsheet so I wasn't emailing everyone that had access every time I needed to make a change.

I dont think that is possible, even with VBA??? The way I have had to do that in the past is to get the IT guy to kick every1 off - maybe they can see who else is on?
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Any reason why you can't share it proper? It's not always an ideal solution, but it may work.

    Search Google for:-

    excel shared workbook

The first result should tell you how it's done if you're not sure.
