Problem creating a hyperlink to a file

    Hello,

Previously I have created hyperlinks to files in a local directory. When I activate them, they locate and open the file as expected. Now I am trying to create additional hyperlinks to files in the same directory but are somewhat "buried". The paths are 4 or 5 sub-folders deep. Excel can't even seem to find the file, much less open it. The path is long but still well under 255 characters (a number I have seen in a few posts as being a limit). Is there a limit to the number of sub-folders Excel is capable of navigating through? Or is it more likely an issue with how the the directory is set up? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Post the formula that you are trying to use, or better still, attach a sample Excel workbook (not a picture of one).

Looks to me the issue is you are trying to open a file from a .zip location which i don't believe is possible. Correct me if i am wrong though.

You are correct that it is a .zip location. I wasn't aware that could be a problem. I can move the file to a non-zip folder but it will still be several levels down the chain. I'll try that and report back.

    Thanks for the help!

The hyperlink should work even if it is in many subfolders; Just as long as there are no .zip locations. I believe this has something to do with .zip being treated as a file rather than as a folder. (At least that is what i found through my research.)

Updated file is attached. No Zip folders in this path. Still won't get past the first folder in the directory. Any other thoughts on what could be wrong?

I really appreciate your efforts. I don't get an error message. Just a windows explorer window. Tried pasting a snapshot of it into this post but can't seem to figure out how.

Select Go Advanced on this forum.
    Then select Manage Attachments.
    Select Choose Attachment
    Select your screenshot.
    Select Upload.

    this should upload the screenshot.
Or you could just type out what the windows explorer dialog box states.

    WOW!!!

Thank you so much. I can't believe it was something that simple. Although our IT department probably won't thank you. Our current organization is the result of merger a few years ago. Use of the # was what they came up with to distinguish between files from the two previously separate entities. Someone is going to have a lot of cleaning up to do. Thanks again.
