    Date and Time in column dont convert in Using Text to Columns

    When I do Text to Columns the date works but the time shows as 1/0/00. I have that column formatted as time, but it gives me a date type response. Here are a few actual cells with data.

    Original Converted Date Time Text
    1/29/2016 15:26 PHONE 1/29/2016 1/0/00 PHONE
    2/14/2016 18:58 PHONE 2/14/2016 1/0/00 PHONE
    5/28/2016 19:13 PHONE 5/28/2016 1/0/00 PHONE
    7/8/2016 17:16 PHONE 7/8/2016 1/0/00 PHONE
    9/1/2016 13:16 PHONE 9/1/2016 1/0/00 PHONE
    8/16/2016 11:33 PHONE 8/16/2016 1/0/00 PHONE

    When you go through the Text-to-Columns process, you can specify the format for each of the results columns. Try this:

    1. Select your original cells and click Text to Columns;
    2. Choose Delimited then click Next;
    3. Choose Space then click Next;
    4. The first column will be highlighted at the bottom (probably white text on black background); choose Date and MDY - you'll see MDY appear in the column header in the preview at the bottom; do not click Finish yet;
    5. Now click in the second column in the preview at the bottom; leave this as General;
    6. Now click in the third column; choose Text;
    7. Click Finish.

    Does that do it?

    Note: steps 5 and 6 aren't strictly necessary - the columns should format automatically as General (giving Time and Text) if you don't check, but it's worth confirming in case something in your particular setup is different.

    I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
    If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
    If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
    You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
