Count a range using serial #'s tracked

    Hello!

I'm attempting to create a tracker that shows me who purchased a range of raffle tickets and am struggling with it counting the total purchased based on the range in the serial #s. For example, if someone purchased tickets 001- 010, (I currently have the start serial in a column and the end serial in a column) have it sum the total tickets purchased. Seems really simple, but I cannot figure it out without creating an inventory tab with them all listed, and I'd like to avoid having to do that..... any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

I'm really not clear what you are trying to do. Giving only one line of sample data doesn't allow us to determine logic or patterns. More explanation and sample data, please!

Re: Count a range using serial #'s tracked

So there are these raffle tickets - that are numbered - I'm tracking who I'm sending what serial # ranges and would like a total based on the count of serial #'s. For example, if jane doe bought ticket # "001" (Column E) Through ticket # "010" (Column F), count is 10, and I want a column with a formula to count them (currently Column G). So far, subtracting the end serial to the beginning serial will give me one shy of a count, but to add one to the formula messes up all the blank columns by adding one. Make sense?
