Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

    Hello,

Thanks in advance … What am I missing here …

Simple pivot table to count Hit, Miss, N/A under any given month for 7 different column headers

However the moment I add a second column header it appears to be counting the result under the previous results and stacking them?

Please see attached test book … what am I doing wrong?

It just looks odd .. I provide an example in test book on how I want it to look.

What setting am I not selecting or what setting am I selecting that is making the output look odd?

    Thanks again.

Under "Rows" of the Pivot table, you have included "Prior Months trending". Remove that and you should have what you want. Also, you have the "focus Coaching" twice under Values - I'd remove one of those as well.

Gregb11 - Thank You for the suggestion.

The Prior Months Trending is something that we have to note each month .. it is actual not counting the other headers .. So it also will be coded with a hit or miss. Just for testing I removed it. Same result .. once I add a second row item .. it starts to stack and filter the results.

It was an oversight on the duplicate under values .. removed but did not fix.

So I still stumped as to this pivot is not returning the results I am looking for?

    What am I doing wrong?

You or anyone else see the error of my ways?

Just remove the item Focus Coaching from the Rows box in the pivot table set-up dialog on the right, and also the two Coaching items from the Values box:

Re: Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

@AliGW - your example looks fine because you are only counting one of the 7 headers I need to include.

There are a total of 7 headers that I want to count in the pivot.

Once you go from 1 header and add a second, third .. etc. it starts to stack the results?

Re: Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

This is what you said you wanted:

    Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
    F
    G
    H
    15
What I want it to look like
    16
    17
Count of Prior months Trending Count of Focus Coaching
    18
    January
    7
    19
    Hit
    6
    20
    Miss
    1
    Sheet: Sheet2

So, if this isn't what you want, what is? How about showing us? Mock it up manually, otherwise it's just guesswork.

Re: Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

@AliGW - Thanks … I did say what I want the above view that is created but that is only for one header - Prior Months trending.

Once you add the other 6 headers it starts to stack the results .. which I have not seen a pivot table do before .. or I am going crazy.

So test .. all 7 headers that I want I need to count .. and it is stacking the results over each other?

I want it to look like the it does when you have one header in the rows column (your example)

Well, it wasn't what you showed in the sample workbook! Try not to bite off the hand that feeds you ...

I will have a look at the latest attachment. Hopefully you've mocked up what you want.

EDIT: No, you haven't done what I asked. Please SHOW US what you want it to look like. Mock this up.

Re: Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

So here is what I need it to look like - see test 3

If you notice the values are all the same under each header.
Have a look at the field list in the row box … it only have one header.

I need to get the proper count for all headers so when I bring down the other 6 headers it starts to stack the results and gets messy.

I just don't know what I am doing wrong.

Re: Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

This is not a mock-up of what you want. Forget the pivot table for now - just MANUALLY create the table as you want it to look with the values you are expecting to see. Remember, it's obvious to you what you are aiming for.

Re: Pivot Table appears to be stacking results?

So here is a manual mock up of what I think the pivot table of the raw data should be giving me … see Expected Outcome Tab

I can not seem to duplicate the same output once I have more than one of 7 headers I am trying to get data on month over month.

I hope this attachment clears up what I am hoping to achieve.

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I am thinking PowerQuery - which version of Excel are you running? Please update your user profile, filling in the relevant field to show this.
