Newbie wanting to start a searchable list

    Hello
I am complete excel newb. I want to compile a list of content with titles, descriptions and two separate categories each item will possess. I am wanting it to be searchable by alphabetical order of title, as well as by each category (in alphabetical order again).
Exactly what I am visualising is something like what you see when you open a directory in windows. You can arrange the files alphabetically, by date modified, by size, etc. If you arrange my to-be list by alphabetical order, all the content will be arranged alphabetically, regardless of their category. But if you arrange by any one category, you see those categories arranged alphabetically first, and then each item within that category arranged alphabetically.
I'm not sure if this is even doable, or if I can get something that's close but not exactly what I'm wanting. Either way, I would love it if someone could please direct me to a video or textual tutorial!
    Thank you!

Re: Newbie wanting to start a searchable list

    Welcome to the forum

The first thing would be to define the columns you are going to use and put headers in row-1.

    Maybe something like:
    In cell A1: "Title"
    In cell B1: "Description"
    In cell C1: "Category-1"
    In cell D1: "Category-2"

Now you can enter your data in subsequent rows.

Finally, unless I'm missing something, you are simply looking for Excel's built-in "sort" capability. Excel's own built-in help would be a good place to start Click on the "?" help icon on the menu bar then type "sort" into the search box.

Give that a try and if you have specific issues / questions then let us know.
