Downloaded excel file is too small to read

I have downloaded an Excel file but I cannot edit it to get it ito full page and the information is readable. Right now all it wants to do is be in a very small column like size on the paper. When I had an older version of Excel I simply changed the row height and moved the columns to the right and it worked fine. This new version refuses to do anything like that.

    .
A moderator will soon instruct you to change the title of your thread from "need help with file" to something more descriptive.

Understand that EVERYONE is seeking help with a file. Later if someone searches for their specific issue .... it doesn't help with the title you've given.

When replying, include a copy of your workbook rather than an image. We can't change an image ... whereas we can work with a workbook to see what is going on.

Use 'GO ADVANCED" when replying to attach your workbook.

    Administrative Note:

Welcome to the forum. And as Logit has clearly stated.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. No help to be offered until this moderation request has been fulfilled.)

    1. Please change title as requested.
    2. You need to have at least 5 posts before you can attach pics.
    3. Pictures are of little value. Honestly, no one wants to re-type your data to try and solve your issue. Additionally, we would only be guessing at how your data was structured, ie. formulas, formatting, etc. Additionally, due to how some browsers behave, many of our members cannot see uploaded pictures/images. Please do not take this route. Rather, upload a file

I am not sure how to get the worksheet posted here. I did everything the post before the last two here and went to the Advanced part and did as it says. I don't know if the file will show oup or not.

Re: Downloaded excel file is too small to read

Will you please attach a small sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: Downloaded excel file is too small to read

I give up!! I don't see anything with the advanced part on this. I will try to figure it out myself. I just bought and put this new Office update on our computer in May. It would be much more helpful to be able to talk to someone or do a screen share. So I will try and figure it myself.

If you look down and right from here (you may have to scroll down a bit) you will see the Go Advanced button - that’s it.

Re: Downloaded excel file is too small to read

I have no idea of what I am doing. I went to advanced and uploaded the file. From there I am completely lost!!! I do stuff like this on another forum but nothing seems to work here. Plus I don't know how to do a sample of the file or how to make something I want when I can't get it to do what I want???

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

    File came though just fine

However, I am unable to replicate your problem, I was able to see everything normally. See the attached .jpg to see what I saw.

I concur with Ford. Thinking about this though, I wonder if the issue is the slider at the lower right corner is not set to 100%

Re: Downloaded excel file is too small to read

The main problem is when I say to print it, I get a file that is about 1 1/2 inch wide and if I increase the font size, row size and such I still only get a file that is 3/4 across the page long ways and you cannot read it if you print it. That is why I wanted to post a picture of what it looked like. I can get it to enlarge so I can see it fine on the screen, but if I tell it to print it will not look like I set it. On the old Excel it would look just fine when I said to print it.

You need to adjust your printer settings. You probably have it set to "fit to page." You will need to make an adjustment to that. It will vary according to your printer. In my case, look at the attached to see my setting and it prints full scale but two pages wide.

OK I have reset the printer and such, adjusted the column widths by dragging them to where I can read the information and this is still what I get.

Re: Downloaded excel file is too small to read

When I go to margins I do not get the no scaling., I have the margins set at .25 all around with no headers or footer. This has to be the most frustrating program I have run into. I have made and used hundreds of Excel files and this will not cooperate at all!!!!
the font is set at 10 also and have the printing set to 90%, and I still get this.

As I said, this is specific to my printer. Yours probably has something similar but not exactly the same. BTW, your Post #20 looks ok to me.

Re: Downloaded excel file is too small to read

WEll I don't know how the h I did it but I have now got it to print correctly mostly!!! Some of the first couple of columns are not wide enough for some of the longer description units but for the ones I want it is working!!?? Using the old Excel software was so easy to edit the file and get it to print just the way I want it, but this new software has made it a real challenge!! Than k you everyone for your help and staying with me in my frustration of trying to do a simple modification and print it in less than 30 minutes. So much for that idea!!

No I was missing the last 3 columns on the left that are the most important. I have that fixed now anyway. What a struggle!!! Maybe as I use this new software I will find more things and how to get them to work.
