This link was helpful...generally speaking. The compatibility check didn't find anything.

However, i do not have any external references inside Named ranged, Conditional Formatting, or Data Validation. I've already searched through the cells and there are no cells with external references. What else is left to look at?
Any VBA code? Any queries?

Can you share the workbook?
I encounter this a lot because i make new workbooks from older/used ones and often something wants to refer back to the previous file instead of the new one.

Look at this thread and follow post #3. I followed this and now the link is gone.
The culprit is in C13. Clear the contents of that cell and it seems fixed.

Sorry, I see now the link I posted is the same as you posted in #1, but it found the error for me when user the checker. Anyway, clear out C13.
Thanks. When I tried to use the compatibility checker it did not include any comment on Data validation. Making the change then closing and reopening the file did the trick.
