Sorting will not hold the the information belonging to the row.

ORDER WON LOST PCT DIFF GB RANK Tie Break
Whittier 3 7 0.300 (27) 0.0 1 7
Nogales 4 6 0.400 (8) -1.0 2 5
Pomona 4 6 0.400 (6) -1.0 2 9
Arcadia 5 6 0.455 9 -1.5 4 2
Monrovia 5 5 0.500 6 -2.0 5 3
Damien 5 5 0.500 0 -2.0 5 10
San Dimas 5 5 0.500 2 -2.0 5 12
Covina 5 4 0.556 (1) -2.5 8 8
El Monte 5 4 0.556 10 -2.5 8 6
Ontario 6 4 0.600 3 -3.0 10 4
Bonita 6 4 0.600 7 -3.0 10 1
Arroyo 6 3 0.667 5 -3.5 12 11

I first sort by percentage. Then I use a second column to sort which is my problem column, Tie Break. It is suppose to sort by the lowest number in case of percentage ties. But the Tie Breaker number will not stay with it's row. I want the Damien tie breaker number (10) to always stay in the Damien Row. The numbers in this column will just not stay with it's team.

Any answers please?

It's best to attach a sample file. Please read and follow the instructions in the yellow banner at the top of the page.

You dont tell us how you are deciding the tie break?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

I may have figured out my problem. Inside the data base I used RANK, and then used two sort methods. I think the rank made some of the data in rows lose their correct row. Does this sound like a problem?

Where do I find the Go Advanced? It says scroll down. I see advanced Search at the top. I don't see any words saying Go Advanced.

What does just before posting mean? Do I copy it from my excel file and then hit Go Advanced. Then manage file and why do i need to see the different extensions? It isn't really as easy as just reading what to do.

Before you click the "Post Quick Reply" button.

Next to the "Post Quick Reply" is the button that says, "Go Advanced". Click on that instead. Then then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click that link.
On the next screen, click on the "Choose File" button and click on the file you want to upload.
Then click the "Upload" Button. The click the "Close This Window" button. Then click on "Submit Reply".

Re: Sorting will not hold the the information belonging to the row.

Okay I figured how to add the file. If it shows up my problem is with Column G. When I change the wins and losses, I then want to sort by percentage, the secondly by Rank. Both lowest to highest. The Column G (last column) will not keep its same number in the correct row. Why?
It will sort once correctly and then when wins or losses have changed it sorts by losing column G numbers into another row. Those numbers need to stay in the correct row.
This is driving me crazy.
Thanks.

Now I can't find the Go Advanced again.

"Go Advanced" is right next to the "Post Quick Reply" button.

Re: Sorting will not hold the the information belonging to the row.

Greg thanks for trying to help me. I get the file as an attachment. I see it has gotten on the thread then when i come back to see if it has been attached nothing. Do I start a reply with some words and then go to advanced and then attach a file and then close the page? I know this should be easy, but it just isn't so.

Re: Sorting will not hold the the information belonging to the row.

Based on the spreadsheet you uploaded, one of the issues is your "GB" column (COL F). Your rank values are hardcoded so I don't see any issues with that column, but I'm assuming they aren't supposed to be hard-coded.

For your GB value, you have a formula that has an absolute reference to the top row. So any time you sort, it's going to recalculate based on whatever sorted to the top row. You can copy the cells from column D and paste into column F (GB) and they should recalculate correctly.

You probably have something similar for your Rank column, but like I said, those numbers are hard-coded in the file you uploaded.

Thank you Greg. I can do without that absolute value going to the first row. Perhaps if I eliminate that the sort will work. I will let you know and thanks for the help. It seemed it was just a simple sort that should have always worked. Just driving me crazy.

GregB11 Thank you very much. It looks like your idea was correct. So far my file has kept the last column numbers in the correct row. I don't understand why the extra formula interfered with that one column when sorting but after I removed it the sorting is working. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!
