Excel file takes a long time to save

Hi

I have an excel file on a local non-SSD drive that takes few hours to save. File size is 2 GB. It contains links to other workbooks that are in NAS. When I click F9 to calculate, it takes less than one minute to calculate. Therefore I suspect that the long time to save is not related to Excel linking to data in NAS. The task manager shows that CPU level is at 7.5% most of the time during the few hours. Disk activity is about 1%. Appreciate your help.
