Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

I have a very simple excel file for a particular need with tables and custom formulas inside of it (not the same formula for the whole column).

Every time I open the excel file from mobile it ruins all my formulas.

I need to keep it in a table for my PowerBI online.

I don't need the calculated columns for this excel at all and I am tired of fighting with this mechanism. Why does it do it every time I open the excel? I explicitly specified to ignore the formula inconsistence.

Any idea how to avoid this?

    Thanks

Are you still using Excel 2010?

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

No, I don't use Excel 2010. From where is that info?
    It's the newest Office 365.

The screenshot is sufficient to show that after I open my excel it will ruin all my formulas. You can see the changes made to my excel file on the screenshot.

From your profile, which is clearly not up-to-date - please update it for us.

Sorry - I have never experienced the issue you are describing. The screenshot is NOT sufficient as I cannot see all of the formulae you say are getting messed up, nor can I test it here to see what you are seeing. And no, I cannot see the changes - I have no idea what it's supposed to look like!

If you want us to make guesses, then the screenshot will be enough, but I'm not going to speculate. Up to you.

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

    Thanks! Updated it now

I will simplify my question since I dug deeper into:

In one table I have a column with the following values:

    =M2
    =M3
    =M4

    and etc.

When I open a desktop Excel, nothing happens. Everthing stays as it was, so that's good.

When I open Excel online or Excel on Android, it will change ALL the cells in the column to =M2

    So it will become:

    =M2
    =M2
    =M2

This is definitely a bug of the online version.

    Is there a workaround?

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

The calculated column is actually correct, because then I have the option to restore to the calculated value.
Excel just copies the first cell to all the cells in the same column. This cannot be not a bug..

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

You have provided a picture of a worksheet. You have said "In one table I have a column with the following values:" without stating which table you mean. You then say the values[formulas] are: "=M2, =M3, =M4, etc." but your picture doesn't show cells M2:M4 (etc). So, even if anyone were prepared to set up a simulation of your worksheet, they wouldn't know what they were trying to replicate.

It may well be a bug but there is no effective way of anyone confirming your suspicions, or coming up with a workaround, as there is no guarantee that the simulation would be accurate ... and that can waste a lot of everyone's time.

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

My impression was that it was a known bug..

I have attached the problematic excel file.
Please see the sheet ADD and cells B13:B18.

    The values should be:

    =D13
    =D14
    =D15
    and etc..

    Thanks for the help!

By the way, now the problem happens also when I open it on Desktop Excel.

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

I can confirm what you are seeing. However, if I correct the formulae and save the workbook, close it and re-open it, the formulae remain intact.

It is not a bug known to me - do you have evidence of its being widely reported?

Were the formulae correct when you attached the file? If not, please correct, save, close and attach before opening again.

I have just opened it on my iPad and it has opened with the formulae intact and working.

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

I opened it now and it didn't happen as well.
However, I managed to recreate the problem.

I am using AppSheet to insert new entries into this excel file. After I insert anything through AppSheet and open the excel file, it will happen..
The entries that are being inserted are not inserted in the ADD sheet, but to the APP sheeet.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Any suggestions here?

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

It seems to be a bug of AppSheet then and might be better to ask in their forum..

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

I just added a row of data to the app sheet and nothing has changed on the add sheet, so sorry, I can’t replicate your issue.

I mean that the formulae have not changed.

I don’t know it - is it an add in? Yes, it seems the fault lies with it and not Excel.

Yes, AppSheet is an app that allows you to create an app from an excel file

Re: Formulas are ruined in a table because of calculated formula

Whenerver you are adding a new column on you excel or sheet, you need to regenerate schema so that Appsheet can update all the changes you've made from the sheet file. Thank you
