Can't make changes to spreadsheet

Hi all,

This is my first post and I'm not super experienced in Excel.

I have been trying to insert an image into a spreadsheet cell, but the insert/picture options are greyed out (in fact all the insert functions are greyed out).

Thought the spreadsheet might be locked, but the tools/protection options are also greyed out so I can't tell.

Added a new tab ok, but then when I tried to delete the tab, yes, the delete function was also greyed out.

Any suggestions as to what might be going on and how to fix?

you seem to be working from a Shared workbook, sharing a workbook disables a lot of functionality. see this link

since your profile states you use excel 365 have a look at co-authoring a workbook instead, that might solve your problem

to fix it you must not work in shared mode.

Thanks for the advice. Very informative.

I have inherited the spreadsheet, which perhaps was shared with someone by a previous user. In the shared workbook feature article you provided a link to, it says you can turn sharing off under Review/shared workbook, but I can't see that option at all under Review.

I don't actually need to share it with anyone, so do you know if there are any other ways to disable sharing?

Thanks. I did wonder if that might be the case.

Have since worked out the spreadsheet was a stripped down version of another spreadsheet. Have been able to get hold of the original, which has not been shared, so can make the changes required.

Not sure how the version of the spreadsheet I have was shared. The person who gave it to me said they didn't share with anyone. They saved the original under a different file name and deleted sections they didn't want.

In any case, all good now. Appreciate the advice.
