unable to sort the attached Excel by date

    Hi,
I copied cells containing dates from two separate files and pasted them into one column in a new workbook.
For some reason, I am unable to sort this new column by date (see attached excel file).
Thanks in advance for your help

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the version of Office (Excel) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this. Thanks.

Only the top 24 rows are true dates - the rest are just text that looks lie dates. YOu need to convert those lower rows to dates first.

    Hi,

Put a zero in a spare cell and copy it.
    Select A2:A52
    From the menu pick Paste...Special...Add

This will convert the string text 'dates' to dates proper.
