Logic within Countif/Countifs

Good morning all

Is it possible to write logic into a countif formula? for example, i have two columns, pay last year and pay this year. What i want to know is how many persons have a higher than 10% pay increase when comparing the two columns.

I would like to do this in a single cell/formula and not use a macro (which i am currently doing) so that were the data updated the count would change.

Fast answers need clear examples. Post a small Excel sheet (not a picture) showing realistic & representative sample data WITHOUT confidential information (10-20 rows, not thousands...) and some manually calculated results. For a new thread (1st post), scroll to Manage Attachments, otherwise scroll down to GO ADVANCED, click, and then scroll down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and click again.
