    PowerQuery opens connected files

    Hello,

So I connected 2 files in query and then appended them. After that, I loaded the results to a table. Every time I attempt to refresh the table, a window prompts up asking for the password of both files and after typing it, it opens them both. Even if I remove the passwords from the files, it still opens them every time I refresh. What is the cause of this? These 2 files are quite large so waiting every time for them to load is time consuming. I have managed to append in query other files in the past, without having this issue, everything working successfully without opening the excel files every refresh.

    Thank you!

start from the scratch with files without password

    or

    uncheck.png

    and try enter the password

    or vba

    unlock
    refresh
    lock

but for vba you'll need to wait for someone else

    Re: PowerQuery opens connected files

Thank you very much for your response!

I have to say that this option is unchecked. The problem was there when there were no passwords aswell. When the file was unlocked, as soon as I clicked refresh, it opened the files. I added the passwords in the meantime to not ruin something by accident. Now if I remove the passwords from both files, the refresh still opens them.

    Thanks

as I said start from scratch: create new PQ with files without password

    or try this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssqVE3tshXI

or try lock the sheet with blank password
(in this case, the files should not contain other passwords)

    lock.png
it will lock the sheet and turn off Refresh to protect your data
after all just click on Unprotect Sheet
