How to use Index and Match to retrieve data but exlude some other data

    Hello Everyone,

I need help with the attached document. I want that the second tab (Fac Schedule) retrieves data from the first tab (Base Schedule) but distinguish between online and in class courses. The in person courses should be in separate columns and online courses in separate columns although in the original tab they are in the same columns. The classes in person have room numbers (101).
    Please find attached the document.

    Thank you in advance.

Hi. Before we get going on this one...

Is your forum profile showing the Excel PRODUCT that you need this request to work with? Win 10 is your Operating System, not your Excel Product.

The best solutions often rely on knowing WHICH Office PRODUCT (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File/Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent Excel PRODUCTS are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the Version number in your profile (e.g. MS365 (PC) Version 2211). The version number is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Cheers,

    Glenn.

and tell us which sheet(s) we should be looking at!!

Remember... you KNOW what you're looking at... we don't. Therefore you need to tell us where to look, or we get bored and move on...

The following, placed in J6:J53, replicates the manually placed results in column J6:J14
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Re: How to use Index and Match to retrieve data but exlude some other data

i am having a hard time using this formula in the other cells. Is there any tips you can give me on what to keep in mind? Can I use the same formula for the in person columns?

Re: How to use Index and Match to retrieve data but exlude some other data

The formula in post #8 is for the online columns, as I thought the in person columns were already populated using formulas, so I didn't attempt to write a formula for them.
    Tuesday online would be:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Thursday online would be:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

I will attempt the in person columns later if someone hasn't already addressed those.

Here is a formula for the Tuesday in person column:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

The row numbers will need to be adjusted for the other in person columns.
Let us know if you have any questions.
