    Count up Function

I didn't know how better to describe what I'm looking to do in the title, but hopfully this post makes more sense.

I have a "get data from database" running that pulls up quantities of stock. I have used this information to create a spreadsheet that will tell me where something in our warehouse should go once it has been received. It's actually pretty good. That's not really my issue. My issue comes from the fact that once we have shipped that equipment, we are moving it to a different locaiton. I need a way to make excel remember that there was once a qty in a cell after that qty resets back to zero. I had the thought (being from a programming backcround) of creating a new cell that will count up when that nubmer is changed from 0 to some qty, but then not reset when it's changed back to 0. (I.e. this cell would show Qty 1 if the previous qty was 1, 2 if it was 2, and so on) So that when I go back and look, I can see that there used to be x qty in that location before we shipped it.

I've searched best as I know how to, but I can't seem to find a function that would do this kind of thing. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.

Which version of Excel do you have? Is it 365?

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

    Re: Count up Function

One way to do this is to create a new cell that uses a formula like "IF" to check if the current quantity is greater than zero and then add that number to the previous count. That way, your "history" cell will keep track of the previous quantities even after they reset.
