Could anyone help me by building this clock please?

I confess I only have the gist of Excel. I am seeking to build an interesting "clock" which may test your excel skills.

This clock would display geological time and I would be presenting it in PowerPoint slides concerning evolution.

It would consist of concentric circles. The idea is to develop a "universal" mental concept of time using this clock as a graphical image to "pin" your thoughts on. Whether your study is about a hundred years or a billion, the clock would be capable of represention.

The inner most circle would be measured in hundreds of years
The second circle would be measured in thousands of years
The third in hundreds of thousands of years
The fourth in millions of years
The fifth in billions of years

Instead of "hands" the clock would show pie sections (we would probably use pie charts)

Each slice would a definable colour.

Specific dates could be represented by lines.

Either a section, or a specific date, could be labelled. Examples: 541 million years beginning of the Cambrian Explosion. Pie Section 130,000 and 40,000 years ago

If possible, where a circle is not being used, the circle would be shrunk down and be represented by a thinner ring of the appropriate colour. This could probably be achieved by having several semi-duplicate similar clocks.

I envisage there would be some kind of grid, hidden from the public view, where data is easily entered according to needs and which is reflected in the charts.

This obviously required a high level of Excel skills. If your up for the challenge please pm me. I will of course help as much as I can.

    Thank you.

    Z

It is our policy to conduct all questions and answers in the threads, not go private. If someone is up for the challenge they should reply here.

If you find no takers to do this for free, consider our Commercial Services forum where you can offer payment.

Could you show a manual mock-up of what you would like this clock to look like? For example, are the "slices" the area between two consecutive circles, or a complete sector from the center for each circle?

IDid not know this policy. I don’t have the skills for a mock up. The slices are like any pie chart. Think of pie charts superimposed on each other. Only on the most internal one would you see a whole slice on the others you would see sectors which would also be valid.

Guideline #3. Do not private message forum moderators or members for Excel help.

As an Excel community we feel that there is great value in sharing questions and solutions. As a free forum, we also feel that getting input from more than one person is very valuable. If a thread is taken off into private messaging, it defeats these two goals.

A mock-up could be a simple as something you draw by hand and take a photo with your phone. You can upload images here. Something like this?

    Clock.jpg

Either a section, or a specific date, could be labelled. Examples: 541 million years beginning of the Cambrian Explosion. Pie Section 130,000 and 40,000 years ago

These bits might be rather complicated. Do bear in mind that you are asking for basically a project to be done from scratch free of charge. It's possible that someone may have done something similar to provide a good starting point.
