Severely corrupted excel file - need help please

Hi all,

When I open the excel file, the error message shown is "Excel cannot open this file "abc.xlsx" because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file".

I've tried the following troubleshooting steps, but none of them have worked.

- Tried Excel repair
- Change the Security settings of the file to Everyone
- Disabled Protected View under Trust Centre settings
- Downloaded a few third party repair softwares but to no avail. The error message from one of the softwares stated that the file is severely corrupted

Any help would be appreciated!

Where did you get this file? If you read the error message, you will see one possibility is that this is not an Excel file. Is it possible the file was mistakenly renamed from something else?

Also you can get this message if you start with a .xlsm file and rename it to .xlsx.
