League Position in Rows of data

    Hi there,

Is there a way using rows of data to figure league position without using table? Been looking around for 2 days without any luck.

Column D and G are 'Matchday' and 'Group' I want those conditions to be met before values in CI:CJ (rank values for home and away teams) be ranked ahead of a matchday.

The closest I've come to a formula is this one (columns AB and AC) but it doesn't give the ranking ahead of the matchday which should be 1 to 4 (number of teams in the group/pool) rather it ranks the value amongst 24 other values:

    I'd appreciate feedbacks

Re: League Position in Rows of data

Your formula in AC2 is ranking the columns AA:AB 12 rows each, so 24 positions...
I didn't get the idea from where you want a rank of 1 to 4, but for further help please show the results you expect to obtain in columns AC:AD.

Mod Edit: I just turned his table a named table and separate it from his calculation table in the hope he uses it and bring more information to me formulate a solution.

Re: League Position in Rows of data

    Hello

So Ideally teams should be ranked from 1 to 4 before every match (or matchday) since there are only 4 teams in the group. Their positions may change after every match based on the results they get. I thought this could be achieved by IF function and setting criteria such as Matchday (in column D) and Group (Column G) to distiguish AB:AC values based on those criterias [ IF((D3 = $D$2:$D$28981) * (G3 = $G$2:$G$28981) ].
I input the expected results in columns AC:AD in the original document above.

Well, I have a not perfect solution for you, if you drag down K2 to AD3 the formula will work, the function RANK.EQ() isn't accepting a formula inside it, you probably tried it too, I will keep looking for a optimal solution.
