    Paste Filtered Data in Book

I’m having difficulty pasting filtered cell results in the attached spreadsheet.

The file contains 1,923 records, of which 454 are Zelle revenue payments from individuals.

It is those 454 Zelle revenue payments that I wanted focus on to get the payee column to show just the payor’s name alone, no description or transaction number, as shown in the original payee column, and I got it down to just the payor’s name alone, as shown in the corrected name column, but I can’t copy that column and paste it into the Payee column [Column B].

I filtered the file to show only those 454 Zelle revenue payments.

And I’d like to copy the corrected payee name and paste it to Column B, but it ain’t taking.

I keep getting the error “Can’t paste multiple cells”. Especially when I use the paste special, “visible cells only”, which was a Google solution found on the web.

I noticed that when I copy Column C I see the dancing green border lines in uneven borders, i.e., not every cell is dancing, but rather a range of rows in that column.

    How can I achieve this?

You should not put sensitive information in the forum.

You can't copy filtered data and paste to other column. What you should do is to cancel the filter and order the column from z to a, then select the range you want copy and paste.

Thanks for the warning about personal data, thought I stripped enough data out so what was left over cannot be used by anybody.

So, I guess the bottom line is that hasting filtered data cannot be done in one step.

You have to somehow copy it to someplace else to work on it, to strip the extraneous data out.

I was hoping for an easier solution.

My workaround was to simply copy the filter data to a new spreadsheet pasted their and strip away the transaction data, but then I have to go back into the original spreadsheet and delete all the Zelle payments, and then copy the cleansed data from the wa spreadsheet file.

We only need 10-20 rows, not hundreds. Formate column C as general and use this: copied down:

    =IF(LEFT(F2,5)="Zelle",IFERROR(TEXTBEFORE(TEXTAFTER(F2,"From ")," ",-1),""),"")

Edit: i do not consider that the data in the attachment is in contravention of laws on data protection... so I left it as it was.

Re: Paste Filtered Data in Book

Thanks for the reply, I did run across that formula during my Google search, the only problem was that when there was a little initial in the payor's name, it didn't work.

E.g., when the name was John Doe, the formula works just fine, but if the name was John A Doe, with that middle initial there, it throws the results off.

And I found the troublesome two use that formula down the column not knowing which names had a middle initial or not.

But, and I apologize, just to beat a dead horse, there's no way of doing this in a one-step process are doing is inside the same spreadsheet, is that correct?

No matter what, I still have to go through a two or three step process and take the data outside of the data set to cleanse it and then paste it back into the original data set.

Did you actually LOOK at the file I posted? I post it again (shorter). Show me where it does NOT work.

There are 5 or 6 instances of names with multiple spaces.

Re: Paste Filtered Data in Book

Experiencing challenges pasting corrected payee names into Column B in the spreadsheet with 1,923 records, focusing on 454 Zelle revenue payments. Despite filtering for these payments, attempts to copy the corrected payee names and paste them into Column B result in an error ("Can't paste multiple cells"). This issue persists even with "visible cells only" paste special. Uneven dancing green border lines in Column C during copying may contribute to the problem. Possible solutions include clearing filters, copying visible cells, ensuring consistent selection, pasting without filtering, and checking for hidden rows.
