Exclamation Changing the font color within a cell based on the value of another cell

    Hi there all,
Newbie here. I generally get by with Google searching but this one has me stumped. I've tried the conditional formatting/highlight cell rules/values greater for the problem below, without any luck.
I have a spreadsheet where every second column has the $rate for a specific item which is hidden by using the same font color as the cell fill color.
In the preceding column, when I input data (typically a number greater than zero and reflecting the quantities we require of that item), I want the hidden $rate font color to change to black. Therefore: preceding cell (A1) value of input data =>0, which then changes cell (B1) font color to black.
I just want to avoid a page full of figures for 100 items when we might only be ordering a few things.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. The sample layout accurately matches that of your real data. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

    Administrative Note:

Is your forum profile showing the Excel PRODUCT that you need this to work for?

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the Office PRODUCT (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your product is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent Excel products are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the version number in your profile (e.g. MS365 Version 2306). This is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thanks.
    Ali

You have thanked me, but I still see no workbook attached and your forum profile has not been updated ...

Thank you, I'm currently swamped and not really familiar with forums. l am hoping plain English is satisfactory for this instance.

    OK - your choice.

But we still need your profile updating as we have no idea which version of Excel you are using.

I am not going to try to recreate our data from your opening post - sorry. I'll wait until you are in a position to provide the sample workbook.

MS365 is what needs to be in your profile but is not. Please change the profile to reflect this. You have given us our Windows version there.

There is still no workbook attached anywhere.

Who knows what is going on? I added it and it was there before. Go Advanced/Manage Attachments/Choose File/upload. Did all that.

Yes, but you probably did't hit SAVE - catches loads of people out the first time! It's there now - I'll take a look.

    CF rule for B1:

    =A1<>""

and set text format to black.

    Applies to: =$B$1:$B$14

Thanks again. Marked as solved. It wouldn't let me add to your reputation a second time around. LOL
