Unhappy Workbook takes forever to open

I think I've stumbled upon a problem with Excel that seems to get worse, depending on how many user controls happen to reside within the workbook. I have experienced this now on two separate PCs - esp. with one particular file that was on both PCs that happens to be chock-full of macros and user controls.
Basically, it takes an excrutiatingly long time to open and it's terribly frustrating trying to do your job around this! Now, there are macros that run on startup, but for the longest time up until recently, this file didn't take long to load at all. It may have happened somewhat progressively, but it seemed to all of a sudden completely go into slow motion and restarting the computer does nothing to deter this now consistent issue! Please ... let there be someone out there who can help to shed some light my way?

I've got the same problem, also on a workbook with lots of macros,
userforms, buttons, controls, etc. It also has a few graphics. It loads and
runs just fine, but takes a minute and a half or more to load up. Also
seemed to start this behavior rather suddenly. Does it on any computer I
load it on. I have much larger workbooks that do not do this. If you figger
it out, I'd sure like to know.

    Hi DR,

After closing Excel and rebooting your system, try emptying all files from
the "C:\Windows\Temp" folder and from the "C:\Documents And Settings\YOUR
    USER NAME \Local Settings\Temp" folder

    ---
    Regards,
    Norman

KURT: I'm not sure if you've tried out Norman's suggestion yet, but he was absolutely right! I found that the Temp folder in Documents and Settings\...\Temp contained TONS of crap that, once deleted, totally brought my workbook performance back up to speed! Thank you Norman!
