I Don't Want = to be recognized as a formula

I am importing some data that has an equal sign and it of course being recognized as a formula. How can i prevent excel from interpretting an = sign as a formula?

Select the column containing the "=" (if you have more than 1 column you'll have to do this one column at a time).

Go to Data|Text to Columns and skip to the 3rd dialogue box. Select Text from the "column data format" area. Click Finish.

Repeat for each column to convert.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

put an appostrophy before the =.
for example, Excel interprets '=5+4 as the string "=5+4".
