Converting ddmmyy date format to text string

Hi anyone help please.

I can format a date string such as 06/06/08 to 060608 using custom format.
What I need to do now is convert the 060608 date format to the same but a s a text string 060608.
When I try i get the date value returning to 39605?

Any ideas?

you don't need to do any special formatting on the date initially (it can be of the form mm/dd/yy)
Does that work for you?
