insert>object>create from file -> missing icon

I am trying to embed a document in my Excel 2003 worksheet using insert>object>create from file. ("link to file" and "display as icon" left unchecked)

Usually when I do this the result is a rectangular object with the objects filename at the bottom, and its icon at the top.

However when I try to do this on a different computer, I get the same rectangular object with the filename at the bottom, but there is no icon included -- how can I fix this?

I am not on a network, and I am embedding (not linking) the object into the document from my local hard drive.

Excel can find the object, and I can use it, it just doesn't display its icon.
