Leave cell blank when there is an error

How do you you leave a cell blank in case of an error? Currently i use =Errorif(cell; replacement value if there is an error) . I cant seem to make the cell blank.

This is problematic because i use =Average() on the columns and it will also use the errorif cells when they aren't blank

    =IERROR(expression, "")

The result is not a blank cell (it's a formula that returns a null string), but it's ignored by AVERAGE.
