merging cells prohibits slanting column line?

im trying to replicate a spreadsheet document wherein a column header has a slanting line coupled with cells beneath it. i can't post a screenie right now as photobucket is under maintenance.

to make the header column wider, i merged 2 cells. problem is, by doing so, the slant line wont appear anymore.

    any tips?

    tia.

Yes, get rid of merged cells. Try "Center across selection" under formatting cells
