    YY axis completely off

    Hello,

I've made a X-Y scatter chart and, for some reason, the YY axis "refuses" to display its actual numbers and instead, presents a whole bunch of repeating, from top to bottom, 000,000,000,002, see attached file please. Decreasing the decimal points doesn't do any good, just turns the yy axis into 002, for instance.

    Any ideas?

Which chart are you refering to, as they all appear to have a Y axis going
    1.56000000000 to 1.70000000000

All the charts in the 3 sheets are pretty much the same, so I don't think it is relevant to identify just one. The Y range is very close to all of them because of the Cauchy equation associated to them. And no matter if you fit 1, 2 or the 3 curves, I always get 000,000,000,002 in the Y axis. I set "a lot" of decimal points because I really need to characterize well the very small differences between the dependance of n to lambda, but when I reduce the decimal points I only get a 000,000,000,002 with less 0 in it.

Not only excel automatically sets that 000,000,000,002 but also, Format Axis -> Axis Options, I try to set the minimum and maximum values, whatever, but excel just keeps that gigantic incomprehensible number in the Y axis.

The attached contains a picture of how the chart appears to me. I do not see the issue you are describing.

It must be a regional thing as I see the axis as expected.

Can you increase the y values by a factor of 10 untill the axis displays correctly.

When I multiply de yy axis by a factor of ten (see example in the attached picture), the weird 000,000,000,002 "format" is maintained but with new numbers. Now, I'm guessing the last 002 from the previous weird number is the... (I don't know) top closest integer number of 1.7...?

Is this making any sense? Why on earth is that number displayed no matter what I do?

Only other thing I can think of is do you have the latest updates?

Can you see this scale correctly or are the values again corrupted?

One think I follow religioulsy are all windows updates, so my office 2010 is up to date. But, as you see in the attached picture, my YY is still corrupted...

This is really annoying! I can't do my work properly because I can't use my excel charts... SIGH...

I sent this same file to a colleague with office 2007 installed, and she sees it as you do, the yy axis with the right values. So, between the 3 of us so far, I'm the only one who can't display this basic data and chart properly, using office 2010 up-to-date...

    OK, Problem Solved!!

Just went to "Format Axis..." -> "Number" and for some reason it was "Category: custom" but changing it to "Number" instead, the YY Axis represents what it should have been representing all along.

    Cheers!
