need help using random function in excel 2010

i have a list of 776 and want to randomly choose only 340 cell from it any one can help me please,
the problem is that i can generate random numbers but i cant choose from the list depending on it

Generate Random Numbers.
Rank them from largest to smallest. (or smallest to largest)
Then pick the top 340.

Hi,

If the 776 cells are in a contiguous range of cells then in an adjacent column enter the function =RAND(). Now sort the two columns using the RAND() column as the key. Pick the top 340 cells.
