    Lemmatization using excel

    Hi,

Wanted to know if it is possible to do 'lemmatization' (process of grouping together the different inflected forms of a word so they can be analysed as a single item, for instance 'walk', 'walked', 'walks', 'walking' can all be converted to the base form 'walk') using excel?

If yes, then could you please help me do it for any simple sentence?

    Thanks,
    Shashank

what kind of grouping are you looking for?

What would the output be if the input was: "I like to walk to the store. Walking is great, we always walked to school back in the day."

    Hi,

    Thanks for your response.

For the sample example that you have mentioned, the desired output will be as follows:

"I like to walk to the store. Walk be great, we always walk to school back in the day."

Taking another example. Consider the following sentence-
    "He panicked and fell."
This sentence should get converted as "He panic and fall." after lemmatization.

    Thanks,
    Shashank

Should be easy to do, if you have a list of words to replace. For instance you could do a large Find-N-Replace macro to look for walks, walked, walking, etc.

Do you have such a list or is one available?

    Hi,

Actually, the thing am dealing with here is "customer reviews" and the study will have thousands of them. So it would be tough to determine before hand which are the words on which lemmatization need to be performed.

Thanks for your time and consideration, i guess it will be good to search for some separate software for this purpose.

    Regards,
    Shashank
