Protect Data but allow unhiding of columns

Excel 2007 - is there a way to protect data from being changed, but allow users to hide or unhide columns?

    Yes
    You could write two macros:
    Macro 1
    - temporarily unprotect the sheet
    - hid a column
    - reprotect the sheet

    Macro 2
    - temporarily unprotect the sheet
    - unhide a column
    - reprotect the sheet
Click on star (*) below if this helps

I don't want the sheet unprotected at any time. Any other ideas?

The unprotecting of the worksheet can be done in the background. The user would be unaware . Reprotectting the worksheet could also be done in the background

I guess I'm not following you. if I don't want the sheet unprotected at anytime, whether the user is unaware or not, this solution is not acceptable.

I am not sure you can do what you want done without unprotecting the sheet at some point.

BTW: Worksheet protection is easily defeated especially Excel 2003 using a Excel Addin. Do a web search
