I am trying to sort a fairly long list of tasks into a custom calendar order. I have created the custom list as Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan etc through to Aug, with one additional heading of "Recurring". The list won't seem to sort by the column where these headings occur. See attachment. Any tips? Thanks.

Maybe you can show manualy how the desired (excpected) result should look like.
Notice my main language is not English.

I think that you have copied across the data from different applications, and as such they include hidden [non-printable] characters. This can be very common. The easiest way to clean up the data is to create a new column to the right somewhere, and use the formula =TRIM(A4) etc to remove any non-printable characters. You could then either sort by this new column or formula, or paste the values of the formulas back over column A and then re-apply the sort this way.
I have tried this out on your spreadsheet and it appears to do the trick.

This appears to be a fiscal year starting in September and ending in August. Insert a helper column (A) and enter this formula in A4:

This assigns the Sept the start of the year the value of 1 and counts from there.
This give you a column of numbers that you can sort in order.
